A 4-year-old boy is brought in for 3 days of fever and refusal to eat. He recently started daycare. Temperature is 38.8°C. He is drooling. Multiple painful shallow ulcers on an erythematous base are present on the gingiva, tongue, and buccal mucosa. There is tender submandibular lymphadenopathy.
